The word Chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the body. Each of these centers correlates to major nerve ganglia branching forth from the spinal column. In addition the chakras also correlate to levels of consciousness, archetypal elements, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, body functions, and much, much more.

Chakra Seven:
Color/Violet
Thought, Universal identity, oriented to self-knowledge
Dwelling:
Consciousness Activation
The seventh chakra is the crown, situated
just above the top of the head.
Used to balance all aspects of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self.
Experience-
Whole Concept
In Balance Qualities-formless,
positive intellect, happiness, balance, bliss, spiritual awareness, Universal
access
Center of-
enlightenment, dynamic thought, truth, oneness
Dream Symbol-thought,

This is the crown chakra that relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is
our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, space-less place of
all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom,
understanding, spiritual connection and bliss.
The sixth chakra is
the brow in the center
of the forehead.
Used to increase understanding, access ideas and promote memory.

This chakra is known as the brow chakra or third eye center. It is related to
the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. As such it opens our psychic
faculties and our understanding of archetypal levels. When healthy it allows us
to see clearly, in effect, letting us "see the big picture."
Chakra Five:
Color/Blue
Sound, Creative identity, oriented to self-expression
Dwelling:
Creativity
The fifth chakra is at the throat.
Used to ease communication difficulties and bring peacefulness.
Experience-
Hearing, Speaking
In Balance Qualities-
knowledge, living without complexity, will, discipline,
self-expression
Out of Balance
Qualities -spiritual
doubt, negative intellect
Center of-
sound, communication, speech, writing, thought expression
Dream Symbol-
ether, sound, communication, creativity, expansion, excitement, deer
This is the chakra located in the throat and is thus related to communication
and creativity. Here we experience the world symbolically through vibration,
such as the vibration of sound representing language.
Chakra Four:
Color/Green
Air, Social identity, oriented to self-acceptance
Dwelling:
Compassion
The fourth or heart chakra is in the
center of the chest.
Used to balance relationships with others, increase calm and create a sense of
direction in life.
Experience-
Unconditional Love
In Balance Qualities-balance,
hope, endeavor, growth, inner harmony
Out of Balance
Qualities -indecision,
fraud, possessive, egotist, arrogance, incompetence
Center of-
compassion, love, group consciousness, spirituality
Dream Symbol-

This chakra is called the heart chakra and is the middle chakra in a system of
seven. It is related to love and is the integrator of opposites in the psyche:
mind and body, male and female, persona and shadow, ego and unity. A healthy
fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, have a deep sense of
peace and centeredness.
Chakra Three:
Color/Yellow
Fire, Ego identity, oriented to self-definition
Dwelling:
Personal Power
The third or solar plexus chakra is close
to the bottom of the ribcage.
Used to clear thoughts, reduce anxiety and improve confidence.
Experience-
Gut Feel
In Balance Qualities-
vision, form, color, ego, Karma, selfless service, intellect
Out of Balance
Qualities -sorrow,
fear, shame, sadness, treachery, delusion, foolishness
Center of-
personal power, ambition, intellect, astral force
Dream Symbol- will, power, anger,
joy, laughter, ram, sun
This chakra is known as the power chakra, located in the solar plexus. It
rules our personal power, will, autonomy, as well as our metabolism. When
healthy, this chakra brings us energy, effectiveness, spontaneity and
non-dominating power.
Chakra Two:
Color/Orange
Water, Emotional identity, oriented to self-gratification
Dwelling: Place of Self
The second or sacral chakra is in the lower abdomen,
below the navel.
Used to balance creativity and relieve stress.
Experience-
Emotional
In Balance Qualities-
procreation, family, creativity, sensuality, emotions, memory assimilation
Out of Balance Qualities-emptiness,
fantasy, envy, jealousy, anxiety, lies, destructiveness
Center of-
emotional desire, emotion, creativity, spirituality, intention

water, emotions, sexuality, desire, tears, crocodile, moon
The second chakra, located in the abdomen, lower back, and sexual organs, is
related to the element water, and to emotions and sexuality. It connects us to
others through feeling, desire, sensation, and movement. Ideally this chakra
brings us fluidity and grace, depth of feeling, sexual fulfillment, and the
ability to accept change.
Chakra One:
Color/Red
Earth, Physical identity, oriented to self-preservation
Dwelling:
Base Foundation
The first or base chakra is at the base of the
spine.
Used to balance physical energy, motivation, practicality and promote a sense of
reality.
Experience-
Tactile
In Balance Qualities-
self-control,
physical strength, patience, vitality, disciplined life, survival instincts
Out of Balance
Qualities -
illusion, anger, delusion, cruelty, self-centeredness, greed,
violence
Center of -physical
energy, grounding, self-preservation
Dream Symbol-
Earth, survival,
grounding, stillness, elephant, earth
Located at the base of the spine, this chakra forms our foundation. It represents the element earth and is therefore related to our survival instincts and to our sense of grounding, connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security and dynamic presence.
