To whomever this may concern,
My name is Matt Geschke and head up the Research and Development division of Sure To Grow®. We manufacture soilless hydroponic media for both the commercial and hobby hydroponic markets. As a result of my position I spend an inordinate amount of time trialing our new products and consequently many of the new amendments as well. Recently, I was contacted by a well respected sustainable framer and close personal friend; Brian Johns of Happy Family Farms. He suggested that I contact Wayne Blakely of Living Stream Probiotic and solicit a sample of his product. I contacted Wayne and obtained a sample. I have now trialed his Living Stream Probiotic amendment in conjunction with his Soil Product in every system I run. The results were nothing short of amazing. Root densities grown in our Deep Water Culture system produced root mass densities four times greater than the average and canopy biomass measurements that were approximately five times greater than expected. I developed no root borne diseases, common in hydroponics, and fruit production by both volume and quantity increased ~30%.
Although this data is impressive, the vigor of the plants is the real news. My sample plants grown in the aforementioned DWC system were all propagated in 3.5” net pots. Many growers believe that an abundance of media must be present to propagate large healthy plants. This is not the case. When plants are given the building blocks of life in a bio-available form they are not stunted from lack of media. The implications of this trial could then be extrapolated into vey real tangible benefits. If 70% of the media can be removed without any side effects the density at which we could cultivate in controlled environments could double at the very least. In a world that in running out of arable land as a result of poor farming methods and contamination these products may prove to be quite useful. I have used other probiotic amendments and obtained measured success but nothing quite as dramatic as the results obtained with Wayne’s product. In short, I strongly recommend these products to anyone growing either hydroponically or traditionally...

Enclosed are photos of the squash and sweet potatoes. The earth
minerals really
worked!!
The sweet potatoes were planted on June 5, 2007. I bought the slips from Jung
Seed Company in Wisconsin. I had three varieties: “Georgia Jets”, “Centennial” &
“Beauregard”. The “Centennial”
was the 24” long one. The “Georgia Jets” were not as long, but they were huge in
circumference. The soil
was sprayed with the probiotic after planting and the plants were foliar sprayed
weekly. These were the
largest plants and potatoes we’ve ever grown.
The squash were 2 varieties; a hybrid called “Really Big” similar to the
butternut and an
heirloom called “Neck Pumpkin”. I sprayed the soil after the plants were 6” or
so tall. Then I foliar sprayed
weekly during the growing season. They were not bothered by squash beetles. We
watered the plants with
“compost tea” early in the growing season, and then water from a nearby spring
when the vines got so big
we couldn’t walk in the patch anymore. They were harvested in late October
before a frost. I planted the
squash on June 7, 2007.
Before the probiotic...in 2006 (June) when our 8 year old Jersey cow calved, she
went down
with milk fever and then also went into ketosis a couple days later. It took her
about 2 months to regain her
strength and start to put some weight back on. She also retained her placenta
for a couple of days.
This year (2007) she was given the probiotic. In August 2007, she calved without
any sign
of milk fever or ketosis. She also passed her placenta within a couple of hours
of calving. She was strong
and healthy, and looked good enough that we were able to offer her for sale
about a month post-calving.
I was truly impressed with how well she did. I gave her some more probiotic in
her feed for a
couple days post-calving.
We have a small flock of laying hens (approx. 3 dozen) to which we give the
probiotics. It is
given in raw milk buttermilk which they get daily. These were 2 year old hens
whose shells normally start
getting thinner and easily broken the older they get. But these probiotic hens
have shells much tougher and
don’t break as easily. They laid steadily this past summer during July and
August when we were in the 90’s
nearly every day. Normally chicken’s laying slows way down when the temperature
reaches the 90’s. And
I only lost one15-year old chicken presumably from old age through both winter
and summer.
My husband Rick and I both take the Living Streams Probiotic and the Living
Minerals
Probiotic. Rick will be 60 in March ‘08, and I will be 58 in December’07. Our
joints do NOT ache or hurt.
Rick works at a propane gas company. The propane is shipped in on rail tank cars
which he must climb up
on to hook-up to unload. A younger worker (age 23) has commented that Rick is
more agile than the
younger workers are. We do not get sick-Rick has never had a sick day from
work-and we feel better now
than when we were in our 40’s.
I milk cows sitting on a milking stool and when I stand up, surprise, my knees
now feel like
they did when I was a teenager. I thought my knees were worn out from being a
farmer all my life but now
they are strong again.
